Day by day

1. Day 1From Tokyo by private car or the Fuji Excursion train (about two hours) to Lake Kawaguchi; afternoon by the lake.
2. Day 2The Chureito Pagoda early when the sky is clear (about 400 steps, or a car to a higher viewpoint), the Oshino Hakkai springs, the panoramic ropeway; night with a Fuji view.
3. Day 3By car to Hakone (about 90 minutes): the Hakone Open-Air Museum and a cruise on Lake Ashi.
4. Day 4Hakone: Owakudani by ropeway when conditions allow, Hakone Shrine by the lake, a quiet afternoon at the onsen.
5. Day 5Shinkansen from Odawara to Kyoto (about two hours) or back to Tokyo (about 35 minutes).
