Travellers who have seen the classics and want China's landscapes
Day by day
Day 1Fly to Zhangjiajie; private transfer to a hotel near Wulingyuan.
Day 2Zhangjiajie National Forest Park: the Bailong lift up to Yuanjiajie and its sandstone pillars, Tianzi Mountain, then the cable car down.
Day 3Tianmen Mountain: the long cable car from the city, the cliffside walkways and the escalators to Tianmen Cave.
Day 4A long travel day to Huangshan: about seven hours by high-speed train with a change in Changsha, in business class, or a connecting flight via Shanghai; private transfers at each end.
Day 5Up Huangshan by cable car: granite peaks, ancient pines and, with luck, a sea of clouds; walks at the top involve many stone steps, so we plan a gentle loop; night in a hotel on the mountain.
Day 6Sunrise over the peaks, cable car down, then the Ming and Qing villages of Hongcun and Xidi.
Day 7High-speed train to Hangzhou (about 90 minutes) to continue your journey or fly home.
